Social Ontology in Wuhan: A Summer School

The School of Philosophy at Wuhan University is pleased to announce China’s first-ever Social Ontology Summer School. The Summer School will explore various topics in social ontology, including collective intentionality, metaphysics of social categories, Chinese social thought, and philosophical issues in the social sciences.


The Summer School is funded by the School of Philosophy at Wuhan University and the International Social Ontology Society. Applications are open to undergraduate and graduate students within China. Travel and lodging expenses will be covered for accepted applicants.


Time: June 5–8, 2025 (participants arrive June 5, depart June 8)

April 15, 2025 (Application Deadline)

April 30, 2025 (Notification of Acceptance)


The Summer School will cover accommodation from June 5th through June 7th, travel expenses (train tickets) within China, and dinner on the nights of the Summer School (June 6th–7th) for admitted applicants. There is no registration fee. Participants are responsible for all other expenses, including meals and intracity travel.

To apply, please send your CV (including institutional affiliation, coursework, and research interests) and a brief (1 page) cover letter about why you’re interested in attending the summer school to g.lebkuecher@gmail.com by April 15, 2025

with the email subject “Application to Social Ontology Summer School”.


In addition, applicants may apply to present their research at a student panel during the Summer School. If you are interested in presenting, please indicate your interest in the body of the email and attach a 250-word abstract and title for a proposed presentation as a separate document. Applicants whose proposals are accepted will be informed alongside notification of acceptance to the Summer School.


Applications may be submitted in Chinese or English. The Summer School will be conducted primarily in English.
